In this article, we at Kili Tanzanite Safaris explain how far can you see Kilimanjaro. Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the highest peaks in the world and is located in Tanzania, Africa. Its height of 19340 ft and location make it visible from a far distance on clear days. You can see Mount Kilimanjaro from a distance of over 100 kilometers away on a clear day.  This means the Mountain can be seen from Arusha, Mwanga, Rombo district,  in Tanzania. And also as far as Emali, Amboseli National Park, Loitoktok Kenya, Taveta, and as far as Mombasa. Nevertheless, also Mount Kilimanjaro can be seen from a distance of over 150 km on a clear day, with its snow-capped peak visible from several viewpoints in surrounding areas, like Moshi town, and Kilimanjaro Airport.

That is why, the first Mount Kilimanjaro ascents plans are from Mombasa. Pioneer Mount Kilimanjaro climbers from German, saw Kilimanjaro from Mombasa. Here we mention, the Deutsche people attempted to hike Kilimanjaro. Some of the German mountaineer’s names are Johannes Rebmann from Mombasa and Johann Krapf. Furthermore, according to English Geographer Halford Mackinder and English explorer Harry Johnston, Rebmann in 1848 was the first European to publish about Kilimanjaro, a volcano Mountain. Also, Hans Meyer reported that Rebmann first arrived in Africa in 1846.

Attempts to climb Kilimanjaro did not end in those years. In August 1861, the Prussian officer Baron Karl Klaus von der Decken accompanied by London geologist Richard Thornton made another try to climb Kibo but did not get high than 2,500 meters (8,200 ft). In December 1862, von der Decken tried a second time together with Otto Kersten, reaching a height of 4,300 meters (14,000 ft). You can read further, about this climbing trend.
